A trainer working one-on-one with a dog on a focused stay command

Training saves lives

No — literally.

It saves lives in two ways. A dog who listens is safer. They're less likely to run into the street, ignore a recall, or put themselves in danger. But it goes deeper than that. Every year, millions of dogs enter shelters due to behavioral challenges that were never properly addressed. Many never make it back out — not because they were bad dogs, but because they were misunderstood.

My personal mission is to change that. I'm here to help build stronger relationships between pets and their pet parents through clear communication, structure, and guidance — so they can stay where they belong: out of shelters and in their loving homes. Because training doesn't just change behavior — it saves lives.

What clients are saying

Verified reviews from real sessions, straight from Rover.

★★★★★

"Josh did amazing with our two babies. I was so stressed with my young and hyper dog Amado. He has transformed him! Amado wanted to learn so badly and really looks so confident when he recalls the commands."

Marsella S.

★★★★★

"We have two 9 year old reactive chihuahua mixes and weren't sure if they could be trained. From the very first consultation, Josh gave us immediate things to implement. We were happy his techniques do not use choke collars or shock collars."

Shawna E.

★★★★★

"He's incredibly patient with both pups and takes the time to make sure we understand each lesson. It's clear that he's genuinely passionate about dogs and dedicated to helping both pets and owners succeed."

Toni Marie L.

★★★★★

"After a full package of sessions, we can confidently say Josh is awesome at his job & cares so much for the individual needs of our puppy. We know we have an amazing resource for any future concerns. 10/10!!"

"Right now, he is helping us with our three dogs getting closer together and potty training for our puppy. Two of our dogs have behavioral issues, and he gave us many tips and answers any questions or concerns you have."

Liz B.

★★★★★

"I worked with him for both puppy training and the Good Citizen program, and the progress my golden made was amazing. Thanks to his guidance, we passed the Good Citizen test on our very first attempt."

Michael S.

★★★★★

"We couldn't stop her from eating her fur-siblings food, bolting out the front door, or potty training her. Now she waits on her rug at feeding time, walks normally on a leash, and comes when called."

Kristina F.

★★★★★

"Joshua, fundamentally, has your dog's best interest in mind, and focuses on real behavioral change rather than simply managing problematic behavior. He believes that every pup can become a superstar."

Megan J.

★★★★★

"He didn't just focus on training our Malinois, he focused on helping us understand how to communicate with her in a way that actually makes sense. He's patient, knowledgeable, and genuinely cares."

How to prepare & what to expect

A few things that help every session go smoothly — for you and your dog.

On training days

Help your dog arrive ready to learn by meeting their physical needs beforehand. Please don't skip your walks — they're a necessity, not a luxury, and play an important role in helping dogs regulate their bodies and minds. A walk before training makes your dog far more receptive to learning.

Please also avoid scheduling vet visits, grooming, daycare, or other stressful events on the same day as training. Stress can significantly affect your dog's ability to focus, learn, and retain new skills during our session.

Meal preparation

Please feed your dog half of their breakfast or dinner — whichever meal is closest to our appointment. This keeps your dog comfortable while making sure they stay motivated to work for training treats throughout the session.

Appointment arrival window

To provide the highest quality training experience, treat every appointment time as a 30-minute arrival window. An 8:30 AM appointment means I may arrive anytime between 8:15 and 8:45 AM.

Arrival times can shift due to traffic, travel distance from the previous appointment, or a session reaching a critical breakthrough that can't be paused without compromising the learning process. I extend that same patience and full attention to your session, too — my priority is always giving each dog the time they need for lasting success.

Training equipment

Every dog is different. Based on your dog's individual needs and goals, I may recommend specific training equipment to improve communication, safety, and learning.

Purchasing and consistently using any recommended equipment throughout the program is required to see results — consistency gives your dog the best opportunity for long-term success.

The learning process

Between sessions

Real transformation happens between our weekly lessons. Our sessions are designed to teach both you and your dog the skills needed for success, but lasting behavior change comes from consistent practice at home. Even just 5 minutes of intentional training each day can make a tremendous difference in your dog's progress!

Behavior is not linear

Behavior change is rarely a straight line. Just like people, dogs have good days, difficult days, and everything in between. It's completely normal to see progress one week, followed by what feels like a step backward the next.

Regression doesn't mean your dog is failing or that the training isn't working. Factors like sleep, stress, excitement, changes in routine, health, or environment can all influence your dog's behavior from day to day.

Our goal isn't perfection — it's steady, long-term progress.

Throughout this journey, we'll celebrate the wins, learn from the setbacks, and adjust our approach when needed. With patience, consistency, and teamwork, lasting behavior change is absolutely achievable.

What you can expect from me

I'm committed to providing every pet parent and dog with:

  • Clear, step-by-step coaching — we're a team, and I'll guide you every step of the way
  • Compassionate, judgment-free support
  • Positive reinforcement methods rooted in science and trust
  • Honest communication and realistic expectations
  • A focus on lasting behavior change — not quick fixes

Your consistency outside of our sessions is the single greatest factor in your dog's success. I promise to bring patience, knowledge, and my full attention to every lesson, and I'll always celebrate every step of your dog's progress.

Thank you for trusting me with your dog's journey. It is truly an honor to be part of it. 🐾
